The following piece was symphonic dances from fiddler on the roof. Why is this on the blog you may ask. The reason is simple this was the concert our band played on th tenth of january at the Singapore conference hall. We were a guest band at Manjusri Secondary's concert. This was my second concert and my first formal one. The experience was exhilarating, certainly one that would be remembered for many years to come.

Months had been spent preparing for the concert. Our conductor was a very strict man who demanded the best playing possible from each member. Numerous band practices included scoldings of fellow bandmates and humiliations. But we didn't shirk back we took it in our stride and gave the best we could every single time.

Symphonic Dances is a nice albeit very difficult piece. The initial stages of practices contained numerous painstaking hours of figuring out notes and timings. Screwing up while playing was common. Of course, our seniors had no problem with piece. It filled us with awe just looking at them playing the piece with such finesse.

The concert day finallly arrived! Yes the actual concert day. After final rehearsels I nervously gripped my instrument and headed off with the band to Singapore Conference hall. After being introduced to various other bands from Chai Chee, Gan Eng Seng and manjusri the final rehearsals began. They were nerve wracking and all that was over it was time to wear our full uniforms adn show off our talents.

My senior Sherman was getting extremely nervous. He was given his first solo! After some mental preparationwe headed out to face the audience. WE began our piece. It seemed strange, you spend months preparing for something and its gone in a flash. And that's just what happened. We received many good comments. And at the end of it all I was quite satisfied. Con=ming up is the SYF. Wish the band all the best!!
