Monitior's Induction

Today was the day I got inducted into being a monitor. I was actually surprised that VS gives so much importance to its monitors. My primary school hrdly ever chose monitors. I was feeling nervous wondering how the others would react to me. A first timer. And to further worsen things Hadi couldn't make it for the workshop! He wasn't feeling so good or so he says.

When we arrived the exco members took down attendance and then it was time for icebreakers. Icebreakers are a must for any event. They are used as a tool to help us know one another better. They feature many common games like Whacko and Sausage. The icebreakers started off with a game called Bang. There was a 'Banger' and would orchestrate the game's events. The game sounded vulgar(seriously bang? Banger?) but was fun. We followed up with a game of whacko. Thereafter came the boring parts. All leadership camps tend to follow a common structure. There are always worksheets which pose questions such as "Define Leadership" and so on so forth.

I really hate when camps do this. First of all at least half of the participants are not interested in answering these kind of questions. Of course they are meaningful but isn't it a bit boring? Why must there be such questions being asked. Everybodyhas a general idea of what being a leader means so I always find this segments largely unneccesary. Anyway we had more games group disscussions(which inevitably led to 'talking cock' sessions) and finally ended of with a...... Feedback Form!! Oh the feedback form, what will camps do without it.

We should never give feedback forms. Nobody answers them truthfully anyway. The orgnisers should have a fair idea on how we feel about the programme or camp after it's over. All good things must come to an end and so did the programme. I received my monitior's badge and a new sense of pride. Let's hope the semester passes equally smoothly.
